UK's Strongest Man Competition
Dean has just returned from the uk's strongest man comp in Belfast. Dean was there as assistant referee to Gary Taylor along with Stuart Murray. Glenn Ross took home his 7th national title. The comp will be shown on sky sports around October with five 1 hour shows.
A mention must go to Mike Williams of Cardiff. Mike flew the flag for Wales and showed alot of heart and guts by getting to the second day (even though he had torn the long head of his bicep, and then the short head in the first event) . Mike was awarded the 'warrior cup' (kinda like man of the match) for his great performance at the Uk's.

Ellwoods fitness world & Britains strongest woman
On a recent trip to Hartlepool I stopped off to visit Gemma Taylor, world's 2nd strongest woman, holder of 6 worlds records and countless other titles. I was then taken to 'EDDY ELLWOODS FITNESS WORLD' for a few workouts. I only have praise for this top notch gym, it really does cater for everyone, from Eddy (5 times Mr Universe), Gemma (Britains Strongest Woman) to the novice just starting out. A full range of dumbbells, barbells, boxing, sauna, aerobics and even a leisure pool! If your in the Hartleppol area I strongly recommend you stop by for a workout! As for my training sessions, they went really well with Gemma pushing me hard - on back and then arms the following day. But I must say that in the bowling afterwards, I was the real champ!! lol.

Dean returns to athletics!
Dean has now officially returned to Athletics! He started his shot put training last week with the help of his original coach 'Paul Jensen'. Dean's first shot comp should be this coming January at an indoor event, and then he plans to also make an assault on the discus scene next summer. At present he has not committed himself to any club, and will throw as a independent for the time being.
Dean's own words.... 'It felt great being reunited with my original coach from all those years ago(about 10yrs!) were both older, heavier and a little more grey than last time we trained together. The session went really well, but it did hurt and i now know that i ain't no teenager any more!!!! The distances I put out seems to be good and Mr Jensen(I can't get out of the habbit of calling him 'Mr' as he was my IT teacher in school) was happy with them too'. But most important was that i had a really good time and i'm looking forward to this new challenge.'

Dean finishes 7th in the UK's Strongest Man Competition
Deans Words...(part 1) I should be happy with how the show went,as it was my fourth national final in three years, but I can't help but feel I could have done more! With the shoulder injury and only having 3 workouts in the last five weeks before flying to Belfast, it was always going to be a uphill battle. As far as the show went, it must have been one of the most contested shows in living memory, especially since the defending champs was out injured. After making it through to the second day, which surprised me and Tan! I had the awsome challenge of the 'Thomas Inch Dumbell', which was a fearfull prospect as I'm not known for my massive pressing capibilty. I managed to press out 2 reps which got me thinking that I had a chance to get to the final, but disaster hit when my strap snapped on the double car deadlift, which meant I was out, but the ref had noticed that the strap snapped I lifted so I was able to go again, and this time I made no mistakes. (see part 2 below)

More on the UK's Strongest Man Contest
(part 2) The final was over before it started, my body was a total mess, hand was ripped, energy was low and all I wanted to do was have a morning in bed, not the type of mind set that'll win you a national title! At the end of the last day I came home in 7th place and happy that I had no serious injuries. My fellow countryman Dale Norris had the comp of his life and finished in 4th place, thus making this the first time that Wales has had TWO athletes in a major final. A big congratulations must go to the big man Terry Hollands who took the title. Now that the dust has settled and I'm back home, I feel that I'll need to take 6-12 months off strongman to give my body some time to recover from the last four years of competition, but I'll continue with powerlifting and maybe a return to bodybuilding will also be on the cards...

Met-Rx Britain's Strongest Man 2005
Deans words... There was a worry about my injured shoulder going into this competition, and whether or not it would be wise to risk causing even more damage but when it comes to flying the flag for Wales, I just can't say no! So going into this competition I have been out of the gym for 6 weeks but it felt like a year!!!
First event - arm over arm van pull (uphill) - this felt light but hard on the lungs. Next up, deadlift for reps - weight was reported to be toward the 300kg mark, got 6 reps and a third place. Then the Shield walk - this was about 190kg, i got to 32metres and once again my lungs said no more. Next Log press - 125kg. Blasted out 1 whole rep, and my bad shoulder knew it!! Finally, the Atlas stones - with the wall at 6' 2" , this was always gonna be hard!!
8th place in the end (out of 12), and no real damage done to the delt. This was a great show and will be shown on sky sports on 31st july!
