History / Background |
From the very first time he laid eyes on Lou Ferrigno in the "Hulk" television
series, Dean has wanted to be bigger and stronger than the average Joe. His
involvement in strength sports really started when he went to high school;
where his I.T. teacher, Mr. Paul Jensen, who was one of the top throwing
coaches in the country took Dean under his wing and helped him to develop the
skills and strength needed to break many of the school records.
As he became bigger, stronger and faster than most of
the other kids at school, he excelled in most sports and was undefeated in the
shot putt, discus, 100m and 200m throughout his school days. This also lead to
much success on the rugby pitch, where in the #8 position, Dean could be relied
upon to score many tries whilst playing for his school, Rumney Rugby Club and
Cardiff Rugby Club!

On leaving school, he moved more towards bodybuilding and at the age of 17, he
won the "Teenage Mr. Cardiff" title at an unprecedented bodyweight of 228lbs,
crushing the UK champion by over 50lbs and dethroning the defending champion.
Following on from his victory, Dean returned to athletics and once again
started winning and breaking records.
Dean spent the next few years just lifting weights with no real goals - that was
until his gym, Peak Physique, entered him in a strongman show and although he
only managed to place 8th, Dean knew that this was what he had been looking
for...
